February came and left....

Yes, how could I possibly miss posting even if it meant just one entry in February...I wonder...February came so quickly and passed...for New Orleans, February marks an exciting month for all party goers - Mardi Gras time!! For me, it was more of an eye opener. One always hear so much about Mardi Gras in New Orleans being a crazy time - trust me, it is. I had the chance to join everybody else in parades and collected many colorful beads. A bag full of them which weighs alot. Not sure what I'm gonna do with them. =) Enjoy some pictures... I'll post more "interesting" ones later.

Books...books...books

I recently found more time to catch up with some reading that I've been meaning to do. When I walked into a second hand bookstore near my place the other day, I was glad to find Paulo Coelho's books seating on the dusty shelves. I've read his Alchemist and was very drawn by the way he writes and how much depth there is. Sure enough, "Veronika decides to die" did not fail to mesmerize me as well. Looks like Coelho will be my life long favourite!

Excerpts from Veronika decides to die...

  • "What makes a person hate themselves?" "Cowardice, perhaps. Or the eternal fear of being wrong, of not doing what others expect"
  • "What is the real "I"? " "It's what you are, not what others make of you."
  • " If everyone there just lived their lives and let others do the same, God would be in every moment....God was there, and yet people believed they still had to go on looking, because it seemed too simple to accept that life was an act of faith."

The Fleur-de-lis symbol

The fleur de lis has traditionally been used to represent French royalty, and signifies perfection, light and life. The fleur-de-lis was first used in New orleans in the mid 1800s. In the months since Hurrican Katrina, the fleur-de-lis has come to be a source of pride, of identity and solidarity for the city and the region.

My first home in New Orleans

Since I spent so much time at this particular "home" of mine, I decided that it is important enough to pay tribute to it :) It's scary to think that out of the 9 months that I will be spending in New Orleans, at least 6 months will go to New Orleans Marriott!

Listen to your heart

“You will never again be able to keep your heart quiet. Even if you pretend not to have heard what it tells you, it will always be there inside you, repeating to you what you’re thinking about life and about the world.”

Carpe Diem - Seize the day

Transience and Ephemerality

" All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts."
-Shakespeare

'Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more; it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.'
-Shakespeare
